Schengen Visa - Single Entry clarification

I need clarification whether a person who has a Schengen VISA with a single entry can visit different countries in the Schengen area.
For eg. Can a single entry visitor enter Greece and then visit Italy, France and finally exit through Germany and return to his country?
Please reply with respect to a single entry visa.
