When submitting original documents to USCIS, the NVC or a Consulate, the documents are not routinely returned to applicant. There are supposed to be protocols for requesting return of original documents, but results have been mixed.

      Hey Ray B
I checked the link you provided ,it doesnt specify for mother 's name.
but when i am filing up my ds 260 online form , it shows :
1st question is :surname at birth:
      2nd question is given names:

surname at birth must be the maiden surname .Nothing specific for given name .
my mother's passport states my dad's name as middle name and not my grandfather's name.
so if i write surname at birth as maiden surname ,what should i write in her given name ?
i can not write surname at birth as maiden surname and in given name my dad's name (as per the passport) all togather !!
should i write Surname at birth as maiden surname and in given name full name of my mother as per passport (surname after marriage ,my mom's name and my dad's name)
or should i write surname at birth as maiden surname and in given name only mother's name (no names of either my dad's name or my grandfather's name )
      kindly help me out.
      thanking you in anticipation,

        BRP,

Without going to the form to see what I am missing, I think you are mixing up "surname" vs "given name." Surname at birth means FAMILY MAIDEN NAME with which your mother was born. There are variations based on custom and country (I won't even try to analyze Indian conventions), but in the Western countries, "given name" is presumed to be the same before and after marriage. The surname will change as the result of marriage.

          VI fee paid now what?

So this is my first time posting here and all the replies have been very helpful to keep track of what is needed and when. I have submitted all documents from Ds-260 to AOS and recently paid the IV fee of $385. I am in USA and my wife is in India, whom i am trying to bring to USA on Visa.. Once the IV Fee says "invoiced" (it says it's in process currently) and after that i know i need to fill out the ds-260 form online and the submit supporting civil documents. My question is, who submits these documents? As they require original for some documents and copies of other, since my wife would have original, would it be faster if she sends them to me and i submit them or do she have to send them directly to the NVC? she has not received any paper work to submit anything yet... please help!! really appreciated!

          Thanks!

One person should be submitting all sponsorship and civil documents to the NVC, using the appropriate barcoded cover pages. It works best if that one person, you is in the U.S., as you would have better control in receiving, reviewing and packaging, then sending to the NVC at one time.

              thanks Ray!

Thanks Ray! yes i do have the barcoded sheet after paying the IV fee.. So once all documents r submitted.. are there any other fees or documents required by NVC? or is it then direct to the interview date?

There are two fees, two packets submitted (sponsorship and civil documents) and completion of the DS-260 online visa application form.

After a successful interview, there is a hokey $165 Green Card issuance fee payable online to USCIS that seems to cause lots of navigation difficulty, completely different from how the NVC fees are paid.

                  Question for Ray B:

                  Hi Ray B,

Great thread and very helpful. Awesome of you to take the time to answer.

I have a question if you do not mind.

                  A little background:

DS-261 (Completed) and AOS 88 USD Fee (PAID).

It looks like I am in the same boat as everyone else waiting to be able to pay the IV Fee (its been over a week and we already lost 3 weeks previously as they misspelled my email address which is unfortunate)

The visa is for my wife (from Finland, been married 4 years and have 1 child that already has an American passport). I have had to already move to the US because of work and she and our child are in Finland waiting. She is also pregnant (baby due in March, 2015) and we are trying to get her over here as soon as possible before she can no longer fly and to set things up for the baby to be born here.

                  My question is this:

From what I understand (from this page http://travel.state.gov/contenthttps...documents.html), I will only send in ONE package to the NVC? That package would include:

                  - Cover letter (page written by me explaining what's in the package and a history of the case?)
                  - AOS Cover Page (with barcode)
                  - I-864 completed
                  - Supporting financial documents
                  - Supporting civil documents (her birth certificate, marriage certificate, photographs, police records and copy of passport biographic data page)

Am I correct this all goes in one package? And since we have all this information, can I send this to the NVC while we are waiting to pay the ds-260 fees to appear?

After the ds-260 fees appear, we pay them and fill that in electronically? Then my wife gets the doctor exam and brings the cover page of DS-260 with her to the interview?

Thanks for any advice in advance. Its truly appreciated.

                  Cheers

                  Philip

You cannot send the civil documents until the visa fee is paid to the NVC, and you can then download the cover page.

Both packets (AOS and civil documents) can be mailed at the same time in the same envelope but in separate packets each, with individual cover pages. You can also mail them separately to the NVC. I prefer to mail them together so that all the reviewing by the NVC can start at the same time.

                      ok, now 1 more question

Thanks Ray B for the answer! Very helpful and very much appreciated.

I have one more question if you don't mind taking the time.

The local embassy has accepted our expedite petition and the NVC has confirmed this.

We have now paid the AOS fees, IV fees and submitted the ds-260 electronically.

From what I have read, the NVC now does not do anything but forward the documents to my wife's local embassy.

So would my wife now bring the AOS package and the IV package + a print out and cover letter of the DS-260 to the embassy for her interview?

Any thoughts or suggestions would be helpful.

                      All the best,

                      Philip

Your sponsorship and civil documents have to be mailed to the NVC, unless your applicant is in one of the countries allowing scanned submittals to the NVC, followed by hand-carrying original documents to the interview.

Upon receipt of your original or scanned documents, the NVC reviews, then gives you a completion notice, followed by an Embassy appointment package.

Do you want to paste my interview letter over here ? Only the dats not the confidential info. I guess then you would be able to understand my exact question.

Can't you just specify the problems you believe you still have? Your message which says "but still i am facing certain probs" tells us absolutely nothing.
