Opt-> H1

Hi all ,
I have a question. I have my Opt started this febrauary 2008.
I will apply for my H1B this april.

When my h1 gets approved on the 1st october, does my opt cancels out??

I want to know whether I can work in my OPT even after my H1 is active.
