  • 51 Weeks of Full Time CPT and OPT eligibility

    Hi all,

I have done exact 51 weeks of full time CPT on my masters degree level. I know 12 months or more of full time CPT makes you ineligible to get post completion OPT. 12 months are 52 weeks.

If I have done 51 weeks of full time CPT am I still eligible for OPT ?

    or

Anything over 48 weeks which means continuing into 12th month [but not completing it] will make you ineligible for OPT.

I don't know how USCIS calculates full time CPT period: Is it in terms of months or by weeks ? Thanks in advance for answering.

I think you can get it owing to ambiguous 12 month requirement.
This is my opinion and not legal advice.

12-month means full 12 months. If you have stopped working at the 364th day with pre-completion OPT or CPT, you are still fine. Your new I-20 for OPT should state that to make things clear for the officer though.
