Hi everyone!
I have a question regarding my OPT/Authorization for Employment question and hope you'll be able to help me...
I graduated in December with a M.Ed. I sent my OPT paperwork early in November. At that time, I had an idea of where I would be doing my OPT (the same place I was doing my CPT/practicum at), but nothing was concrete so my international advisor told me to say I didn't have a job offer.
I now have a concrete job offer, and they would like me to start on February 8th (I had February 1st as OPT start date on my paperwork). My case status is still at "Initial Review". My international advisor told me that I could expedite the process with a job offer and to contact the USCIC. I called them 10 days ago and explained the situation. The person I talked to didn't seem to "care" about a job offer but just wanted to know if one of their reasons for expedite (financial loss/medical reason etc) applied to me. I said financial loss would apply since I didn't have any resources as of now and had to pay off my students loans. I asked if they would need me to fax/mail them my job offer and he said no, that the USCIS would contact me if they needed more information.
I got an email from them saying that they got my inquiry and that I should get an answer in the next 30/60 days... However, that "don't know" I have a job offer... I'm afraid the whole phone call/expedite thing will slow the process rather than expedite it... I know I shouldn't worried since I'm still in the regular timing but still...
I was wondering if I should go ahead and fax or send them my job offer or if I should just wait and see... I'm just afraid the process will take forever, and I do not know how long my employer is ready to wait for me! Should he be the one calling them next? I'm lost and have no idea!
Please let me know what you think of that whole story... My international advisor always takes forever to get back to me and is not very helpful...
Thanks!
