AIR India Flight 101 from Delhi to DC information required

Has anyone travelled by Air India's direct flight ( A101) from Delhi to DC recently in the past couple of weeks. I would like to know the experience ASAP. My mother is travelling by Air India in the end of April and Air India says that they do not have to claim their luggage in JFK (2 hour stop over). I have heard that they always misguide on phone whereas the person travelling has to not even do the immigration at JFK but also claim the luggage and then drop it back at Air India counter and then walk to the Terminal / Gate. Can someone please let me know if that is the case......

If the flight stops at JFK, how is it direct flight from Delhi to DC?

Please explain.

This is what AIR INDIA claims that it is the direct flight and the aircraft remains the same. They take 2 hours of halt and then fly the same plane to DC from JFK
