  • Booked a visa appointment a few months back, but my visa details need to be updated

    Hi all,

I qualify for an O-3 visa as a dependent of my spouse, who is currently in the US on an O-1 visa. I had applied for a US visa interview a few months back in June of this year and got an interview date for October.

Since then, my spouse's visa had to be renewed in August and her visa number, visa expiration date, etc have changed.

There seems to be no way to now change these details for my visa interview and DS-160 without cancelling my existing appointment and booking a new one, which isn't gonna be available for another 5-6 months.

Can I just show up to my visa interview in October and explain the situation to the immigration officer?

Has anyone been in a similar situation before?

    Hi there,

It’s definitely a tricky situation, but you should be able to resolve it at the interview. Many people have faced similar circumstances, and as long as you bring all the updated documentation regarding your spouse's O-1 visa (new visa number, expiration date, etc.), you should be fine. The immigration officer typically understands changes like this, especially since it involves your spouse's visa renewal. it's a good idea to bring both the old and new visa information, along with any proof that shows the changes.

Make sure to explain the situation clearly and have all the relevant documents organized. Best of luck with your interview!

It's best to update your DS-160 with the correct information, even if it means rescheduling. Showing up with outdated details may cause delays or complications at the interview.

That’s a pretty common situation, actually it happens whenever the principal O-1 visa holder gets a renewal or new petition approved after the dependent’s DS-160 has already been submitted. You don’t necessarily need to cancel your interview.

Just fill out a new DS-160 with your spouse’s updated visa details and bring both the new and old confirmation pages to your appointment. At the interview, let the consular officer know that your spouse’s visa was renewed after you booked your slot. They’ll use the new DS-160 number to update your record before processing.

A lot of people have done this without needing to reschedule as long as you bring the latest O-1 approval notice (I-797) and your spouse’s new visa copy, you should be fine.

Yes, you can attend your October interview. Bring your spouse’s new O‑1 visa, updated I‑797 approval, and proof of your relationship. At the interview, explain that your spouse renewed her visa after you submitted your DS‑160. You don’t need to cancel or rebook; the consular officer can account for the updated details.
