  • Applying for B1 visa, need help

    Hi,

I am an indian based in Dubai.
I plan to attend a conference in US which eventually will be paid for by y office but cirrently I need to apply for the visa on my own.

I was not sure which visa to apply for and I went for B1 as it was for a conference although it will be self sponsored currently.

I hav bought the conference ticket, got a invitation letter and hav all the flight tickets booked.
Donno what else is required, any help would be highly appreciated.

Also if asked why My office is not sponsoring , should I say that i will be reimbursed later or should i not mention it.

I am a little confused , any help would realy b great.

    thanks
    Supreet

The officer will ask you questions about your position in the company and
why there is a real need for you to go to the conference.

Especially when you are doing it on your own, they think it may be an excuse to
    to go to US.

      Hi,

      thnx for the info.

Let me explain you my situation, then i think u will b in a better position to help me out.

I have to Go to US mid May to attend a conference, which will be entirely paid for by the client + plus my office.

But I still needed to apply on my own as if i waited to get all approvals, i would not hav gotten a date for the Visa interview.

Now, i went ahead on said that I will be self financing my stay, bought all tickets and did hotel reservation..all these are refundable so am not really worried.

Now one situation is that if thy ask me why i am self financing, i could say eventually be paid for my by office but currently I had to proceed in order to be sure I have the visa one time and may be show them a print of an email .

Second option i might get a client invitation letter stating that my stay an all will be paid by them, should i show that even when I have already mentioned that the trip is self financed?

      do help
i have to appear for the interview on Sunday.

      thnx

You should seek advice some time in advance.

You could get a letter from your office here stating the company is sending you and all expenses will be reimbursed.

It is not just the expenses but who is sending you and why?

If you have not had the fingerprinting appointment yet, you can amend DS 160.

I already have the appointment set for sunday, issue is that the process on my company to get that letter would take a long time.

thats the reason , why I had to go for it on my own at first place.

i have flown previously aswell to Thailand for a similar conference on my own , but i doubt how much that will help.

I am still trying to get the letter from the client , so that will cover the stay and all my expenses there.
only thing left would be the flight tickets , I could say that i am paying for it own, and office is not paying for it .
working with an airline here, we do get tickets for cheap, and the embassy guys here know that , since its a major airline ...so am hoping it won't b a big issue..
rest i guess you would know better than me..

          Do give your view.

thnx for your input, an I agree i probably should hav enquired a little more before gettin my appointment scheduled.
but since I don't have any option, will b hapy if u could give me some pointers , that could help me during the interview..

One way to go is that I say everything is self sponsored as i hav booked tickets , booked hotel and also the flight tickets. and I hav been to such an event before aswell on my own ..not i US though .

another way is that i could say tht although i don't have any proof apart from a email printout to say, i can say tht it will all be reimbursed.

yet another if i get the letter from the blackberry people tomorrow , I can say that the conferenc ebit is sponsored by blackberry and left is the flight tickets which i bought on my own, it won't an issue as i work with emirates here in dubai and everyone knows that we get tickets at a big discount ..

And usually emirates employees face less issues here.

do let me know your suggestions

            thanks

First of all I do not think 4 months training is allowed under B1. Secondly, this training leads directly to your job placement in US, so
H-3 training visa or B1 in lieu of H-1b also won't fit in. Both require you to show that you will return after the training/work period.
H-1b visa requires a petition approval in US filed by your employer.

I strongly suggest you talk to an immigration attorney and see what fits. There are a couple of them in India.

                  Hello

First of all thanks a lot for your reply , but let me correct i wrote wrongly mine is a 3 month training and on immihelp website i have read that a maximum of 3 month training is permissible is US in B1 visa itself provided that you wont be paid for it by the company in US.

Secondly if my training will directly lead to my permanent job in US , i have to come back and apply for H1B ,as B1 will be only issued for a short duration say 3 months as long as my training will go .

Earlier the same bank has offered people offers letters for training for 3 months and they have gone on B1 visa only.

So kindly suggest me what to , there's lot of confusion in all this.
