  • Job Interview: B1 or B2?

This may be a common question but I am still not clear, so a definite answer will help greatly.

Most of the forums on the Internet say that you should apply for B1 visa for a job interview. When I emailed the same question to US embassy, they replied: "If you only wish to travel to the United States for an interview, a B-2 visa is appropriate."

Can someone please clarify this? Thanks

Either way will work, but the Embassy makes the decision whether to give you a B1 or B2. The visa will usually say "B1/B2," and the Port of Entry will indication on the entry annotation which you are using.
