  • Going to US to repair problem on job site. 1st attempt failed.

Our company is stationed in Korea, one of our NA project encountered problem and we need to send our sub-vendor to job site to fix the problem. We aimed for B-1 visa but first attempt failed. Is there another visa more suitable for this visit?

This is taken directly out of a document provided by US department of State. According to this article, technically our sub-vendors should qualify for the B1 visa.

    *Service engineer (Commercial, Industrial)
Engineer(s) install, service or repair commercial or industrial equipment or machinery sold by a non-U.S. company to a U.S. buyer, when specifically required by the purchase contract. Installation cannot include construction work, except for supervision or training of U.S. workers to perform construction.

Perhaps we need to look into another direction. The H-2B visa is a bit confusing but may work? Does it only qualify those who are hired by a NA company? Or does a foreign employer qualify as well?

    *H-2B: Temporary Non-agricultural Worker
For temporary or seasonal non- agricultural work. Limited to citizens or nationals of designated countries, with limited exceptions, if determined to be in the United States interest.

B1 visa is the most appropriate one. There must be some other reason it failed.
