  • B1 or B2 visa

    Hello,
My brother is a musician in Ahmedabad, India and runs his own academy for hindustani classical music. A temple in USA would like to invite him to promote indian classical music to kids during summer. This will be on a non-profit basis i.e. they will compensate for his expenses during his stay in USA and for the travel ticket.

My question is, should he apply for B1 visa or B2 visa? Which one has better chances?

He has been here once on B2 visa in year 2000. At that time, he had applied along with my parents. However, his visa application for the same visa got rejected when he applied again on his own in year 2001. He is married and has one kid.

Thank you for your suggestions in advance!

B1 and B2 are not issued under separate classification. Whether B1 or B2,
the visa is issued as B1/B2. So, it is not for you to worry about the classification and no where on the form or in the interview will you be asked
whether you are applying for B1 or B2. All you have to do is state the purpose of visit.
