It was my interview today. The lady (She was black) asked me not to open the folder which had all the evidences as she wanted to rely upon her gut instinct. She asked me why I wanted to attend that particular conference in USA only and why not in Singapore, Shanghai or Australia as that happens at all these places. I explained her that the event in USA is 10 times bigger than all these three put together and that's listed in my company's must attend event. It's simple ROI thing for me as attending three conferences will cost me nothing less than $10K and what I'll get will be just 20-30% of what I'll get in USA and that too just in $4K (all inclusive). She didn't understand that.
Next big thing...She asked me my position and my salary and I told her that I'm AVP and earning 17 Lacs per annum and she flipped thru my passport and said that I was an AVP and still never traveled abroad. This was surprising. I know many elite Americans who never walked out of USA and still holding top positions and role and salary has nothing to do with my travel experience. I explained her that if my wish was to go USA then I was recently offerered India Director position in one of the Fortune 5 company but she didn't listen. Now, where's my fault and should I try again? This problem can't be eradicated easily as scenario might not change even after one year. If it could have been about tenure, money or property then something could be done but in this case, what I can do?
