Visa Extension Queries

Hi all ,
I am in a B1/B2 visa in USA now>This is my 2nd trip to usa.In my 1st trip i came back even though i had one month left.NOw though i needed 5 months the officer at POE didnt give me and alloted only 3 months and said if i need more i can apply for an extension.My visa wd end at mid June.While i need till August 15.My primary visa is a 1 yr multi entry visa.

NOw I understand that I have to file with form I-539...but

a) what are the fees...as i found out from this page Its $300. true ??

b) what are the documents needed to be attached with the form>Does it need the I-94 attached or I can attach a photocopy ??

c) I am presently not at the same address i mentioned while filling the I-94, so which address can i mention.Can my new address can be mentioned ??

a. Yes
b. Photocopy is fine. Keep the original. If you would like, notarize the photocopy.
c. Your present address has to be mentioned. File AR-11 before filing an extension.

B1 extensions past 90 days are difficult and it will result in overstay if denied and may have future visa problems.

Thanks so much for the reply...what do you mean by past 90 days.

a)I wd file for the extension much ahead of almost 20 days ahead of my visa expiery. Wd that be okk ??

b) Do i have to file for AR11 first...wait for the decision and then file I-539 ??

c)Does past good records ( I went back on my last trip while 1 month was still left for visa expiery) lead them to accept ??

d) What are reasons i have to show ?? Simply mine work and conferences hasnt been complete and in between i wd be visitng some relatives and friends.

e) As evidence as i show photocopy of my eticket that is dated in mid August.

Past the originally issued 90 days.

a. It would be okay but if denied, it would have major impact on your future re-entry.

b. AR-11 does not have decisions. It just has to be mailed. You can file I539 again.

c. Each case is different. Past adverse records may impact adversely but past positive records doesn't work or provide any additional favor.

d. You should know why you need an extension. Show conference schedules, your registrations etc. If denied, your visa in the future is risky.

e. You could show that but that may not work in your favor as your I-94 expires sooner and you already decided to have a ticket past your I-94 date.

THanks but let me write more clearly.
a) At the visa interview in India they asked me how long i want to stay & i said 5 months.Now I purchased to and fro tickets that way only. Now when i came to POE the officer said he is giving 3 months but i can apply for an extension if needed.So the ticket was prepurchased before i came to USA.

b)Also if denied wd i be able to stay till my I-94 date?? or wd i have to leave immediately ??
