  • B1 or Visitors visa, which to apply for a confernece

Hello everyone- I am looking to sponsor one prospective person as an employee in my new company as an EEG tech. For that he needs to attend a conference in the US. This tech is currently employed at a hospital which is unaware of him going for this conference as this may be a threat to his current job. Therefore,
    1) he is unable to get any document support from his current employer.
    2) he is not currently employed by us though my company plans to sponsor his visa/expenses.
    3) He has a bonafide certificate saying he is working for this hospital and also has house loans papers.
Qs is should he be applying for a visitors visa v/s B1 visa.
    Thanks Vrushali

Visitor (B2) and business(B1) visas are granted as one B1/B2 visa , which means their purpose is interchangeable. In other words, if you have a 10 yr
B1/B2 visa , you could use it for both visit at one time and business at another. They are not granted separately.

To get a B1/B2 he will have to show strong employer support documents; an employment cum leave cum salary letter stressing that his employment will be ongoing/permanent after he returns and the need for his visit to the conference. If he says he is going on his own to attend the conference, without his employer's support , they will suspect immigrant intent and deny him the visa.
