is degree certificate important?

Hi All,

I am a 2006 B.E pass-out but due to unforseen reasons I have not yet received my Degree Certificate.
My Visa Interview is scheduled for the 9th of September 2008 at Chennai.
Can anyone please tell me if this would hamper my chances in any way? If so, is there a way out? can a provisional degree certificate from my college help me?
