  • B1 Visa rejected, trying to find possible reasons

Hi - I had my interview yesterday at the Delhi US Embassy for business travel. But unfortunately, I got rejected. Here is the interview:

    Me : Hello, Good Morning
    VO : Passport Please
VO : What is the reason for your Travel
Me: to attend face-to-face business meetings with my US-based team, for next year planning that starts in Sep
VO : Which City are you traveling
    Me: I mentioned the city
VO : So you work with <Company> (it's a known American Consulting firm)
    Me: I said yes
VO : You are going for how many days?
    Me: I said, 7 days
VO : How long you have been working with this company?
    Me: 3.5 years
    VO : What's your designation?
    Me: Associate Manager
VO : What's your monthly Salary?
    Me: 1xxxxx (after deduction)
VO : Have you traveled before for work with this company?
    Me: No
VO : Do you have people reporting to you?
    Me: No
VO : Are you traveling alone or with some colleagues?
    Me: I said alone
VO : Why do you think your team/company choose you to travel?
Me: I am working on this project for more than two years and it will be a great opportunity for me to participate and contribute in the planning discussions and face-to-face meeting the larger team
VO : You have traveled to all these countries mentioned, was is for tourism? (i had listed 9 countries mostly European)
    Me: I said, yes
VO : Sorry as per today's rule we can not grant your Visa (and she handed over the green letter/ 214b)
Me: I was shocked to hear that (she didn't even ask for any documents, I was carrying the invitation letter, meeting agenda, employment letter)

For more background. - Female, Married, 10 years+ experience, from marketing, advertising, and consulting background, traveled to many countries in Europe/Asia, Salary not bad

Can you please suggest what could have gone wrong here?

    Thanks,

    My two cents :

    1. Associate manager not managing anyone
    2. This question was tricky:

VO : So you work with <Company> (it's a known American Consulting firm)
    Me: I said yes

you should have answered that <Company> is your client.
