  • Query regarding I-94

    Hi,

I visited the US for the first time, on a 10 yr multiple entry B1/B2 visa granted to me, in February 2010 and returned to India in April. My I-94 permitted me to stay for 6 mo. I travelled by American Airlines. While returning I dont know why but I volutarily told the lady at the counter of the terminus scheduled for my Airlines to collect my I-94. She said sorry and collected it. But later when we stood in the queue for boarding my flight, another lady who was scanning the passport and Visa barcodes I remember was officially collecting the I-94 slip but asked me nothing why mine was not there. She also did not put any stamp on my passport nor on anybody else's for departing US as it was stamped while leaving India, entering US and then again on entering India. So I have 3 stamps in that page on my passport.

Today after almost 6 mo of my return I apprehend that my I-94 might not have reached the proper place with the CBP and as I might have to revisit the US soon, I am getting all the more worried.

Kindly let me know if there is any valid reason to be worried or if yes, is there any way to check if my exit was recorded or what should I do now..

    Thanks

Some airlines collect it at check-in counter, some collect it at the gate. It will reach the proper authorities anyway. In case you are asked in your subsequent visit to the US, you will have entry stamp to India on your passport which you can show.
This is my opinion and not legal advice.

I was only worried for in this case i insisted a staff to collect my I-94 and therefore its evident that I was the only one who might have submitted it to her. But you think that showing the entry stamp would be sufficient, isnt it, sir?

Consider the incident as a learning experience. Just let people do their jobs and don't try to force them to do their jobs according to your incomplete knowledge of their system.

You will ne fine as long as it was handed over to the airline - Be it at the check-in or the gate. All airlines deposit the I-94s back at CBP at the end of the day and you need not worry.

I am not a lawyer and you need to consult with one to validate any info posted on the forum and discuss your case specifics. H1b Question? Read the FAQ first.

Very true, sir. I do agree, it was my fault. It was my first international travel and I was nervous, frankly speaking.
