  • Can I Apply for an Argentine Student Visa while on B1/B2?

I am planning to move from the United States to Argentina as a student, not as a tourist.

I currently hold a B1/B2 visa in the U.S. (I do not have U.S. temporary or permanent residency). I want to know whether I can apply for the Argentine visa sticker at an Argentine consulate in the United States, instead of traveling back to my home country in Asia, which would be very expensive and risky if the visa is not approved.

In Argentina, there is a proxy process where a Spanish language school applies to the Argentine immigration department on behalf of the student. Once approved, the student receives an entry permit authorization to enter Argentina as a temporary resident (student), not as a tourist. After this approval, I understand that I still need a visa sticker in my passport to enter Argentina.

    My main question is:
Will an Argentine consulate in the U.S. accept my application and issue the visa sticker if I only hold a B1/B2 visa in the U.S., and not U.S. residency? Or do I need to have long-term temporary or permanent residency to apply at an Argentine consulate?

If anyone has experience with a similar situation, please share. Thank you.
