  • N-400 question

    Hi,

While preparing my N-400, I found a question regarding claiming citizenship during the status of being LPR.

Out of blue, I think I might have made a mistake in an apartment rental application 4 years ago.

Back then, in some application forms, citizen and LPR were put in the same box for people to check, while in some other application forms, citizen and LPR were placed in separate boxes. I cannot recall for sure which kind of form I had signed and which box I had checked.

Now I suspect that I might have mistakenly and unknowingly checked the "citizen" box in the apartment rental application. ( I have to admit that I was not reading the application form carefully. It is my bad.)

Since I am not sure if I made this mistake or not, I am having a hard time to answer the question in N-400.

Please advise and I thank you in advance.

If you respond to the N-400 question that you have "claimed to be a U.S. citizen," you are asking for extra attention to be paid to your application, with a possible delay in processing or approval.

On the other hand, if you had voted in a Federal election, and admit to it, you will probably have your N-400 denied, even though there will not be any physical verification of your response.
