  • Passport for a new born

    Hi!

I am an US Citizen, my wife is a GC holder and we have 1 child who was born in the US. We are going to have another baby - he/she will be born in India. Is there a way for us to apply for a US Passport immediately for the new baby?

    Thank you for any feedback,
    AvV

You'll have to go through the CRBA "Report of Birth" procedure which includes a U.S. passport application step, through the U.S. Embassy or Consulate having jurisdiction for the area of birth.

        Ray,

For the CRBA procedure, do I fill out the N600 form since I am a citizen? And can that form be submitted in the country the child will be born immediately after birth?

        thanks for your help,
        Amit

No, the N-600 is only needed to claim derivative citizenship while in the U.S.

If your child's birth parent had U.S. citizenship for more than a given number of years (5 or so), his U.S. citizenship can be recognized using the CRBA procedure.

When did you acquire your U.S. citizenshp?

I did it for my daughter. All the information is on us embassy in New Delhi site. Passport is easy but you have to get the Indian visa also( hard part ).

              Hi! Ray,
I have been a US citizen for over 10 years. I guess I need to find the details regarding the CRBA procedure.
              Thanks for your help.
