  • Second citizenship interview...

    I've got a torturous problem:

My wife's citizenship application proceeded relatively quickly at first. Received notice for her fingerprint appointment in October. Then in December, she received notice for her interview, scheduled for January at the Philadelphia office. Then she went to her interview, and she had some trouble understanding one of the questions from the interviewing officer.

After sever rounds of asking the same question, and not getting an answer from my wife because she didn't understand, the office simply said that a second interview would be required. And it (?) would be in the next month. My wife was upset, so she could not be sure if the new notice would be in a month, or if the interview would be in a month.

Immaterial at this point, since it has been 7 weeks since her first interview. Still absolutely nothing. The online status has not changed (still shows the same info: (On January 7, 2015, we started the interview scheduling process for your Form N-400, Application for Naturalization , Receipt Number ...).

I tried asking for help from a local congressional office, but the staff member wasn't able to make any headway either, and I am reasonably sure they guy tried.

Has anyone else been through something like this, in which a second interview was required? If so, how long did it take to get that friggin' second interview notice? And how soon after that notice was that second interview finally scheduled.

We're trying to make some travel plans, and we're afraid to leave home for any length of time for fear of being away when they finally get around to having us back.

Have you tried scheduling an INFOPASS to get a live interview at your local USCIS office?

A Congressional Office can't be of much help if the Congressional staff person doesn't understand what happened at the interview and you have no documentation regarding a followup USCIS interview.

For an INFOPASS appointment, go to: https://infopass.uscis.gov/

I tried that last night, but they only accept four types of appointments, and none of them fit with such an inquiry as I had. But, when I checked the status of the application and low and behold: Second interview has been scheduled.

      Thanks for the response.
