Hello,
I have a special case. Ill get my green card soon, but my father and stepmother just got a new assignment abroad working for the state department. Im 21 years old, but not married, and I'm dependent, going to live with my father and stepmother at their new posting. I'll be considered a "member of household". And me living with them is approved by the station chief/ambassador.
1, I want to keep my LPR status will living with them abroad for their 3 year employment abroad, before returning with them to the US so I can Naturalize after 2 more years.
2, I will not be getting a job abroad, but I will study at a local university for a bachelors degree.
I have not resided in the US for one continues year, so Im not able to apply for N-470 to preserve residence for naturalization purposes. If my father applied he would have all there requirements, and that would work for me, as ill be a member of household/dependent child. BUT as he is already a US citizen that does not work.
How can I keep my LPR status and count the time spent with my father abroad at the station, as time spent in the US. I will travel back to the US at least a couple of times a year, during the period we will live abroad.
Best regards,
Petter
