  • US citizenship Application Prolonged indian vacation

    Hello All,
i have two question regarding my citizenship application.
i will become eligible to apply for citizenship on Sept 9 2015 since my green card was issued on Sept 8, 2010

    Question1)
i have spent most of my summer time in INDIA quite frequently since my company allows me to work from home.
Below are my trips listed, just wanted to know whether should i factor in my absence from US even though i was only outside country for 2~3 months and was not out contineously more than 180 days.

Below are my trips after i became permanent resident on Sept 8 ,2010 starting with the earliest
    from 06/01/2015 ~ 08/10/2015 (total days = 70)
    from 06/23/2014 ~ 09/08/2014 (total days = 72)
    from 07/31/2013 ~ 09/19/2013 (total days = 50)
    from 09/22/2012 ~ 12/24/2012 (total days = 92)
    from 10/31/2010 ~ 12/07/2010 (total days = 37)

Am i eligible to apply after Sept 9 2015 please let me know

    Question 2)
One more thing is about the name change, my wife first name is "NO NAME GIVEN" on green card, we never tried to correct it because i thought we will do it once i become citizen.
In the citizen ship application there is a provision to change name (if we go for name change does it make the process more long)

    Let me know
    Thanks

Question1: As longest you didn't stay outside of the US for more than 90 days at a time, you are good to go. Just have your trip explanation ready if they ask you for it. Most of the time they don't if you don't have criminal history.
Question 2: You are asking two different questions. If your wife's name wasn't given on the green card, it is okay.
The provision to change name on the citizenship application is asking if YOU would like to change your name. It has nothing to do with your wife's name.

    Hope I answered your questions.

      Thanks for the reply
i did stay more than 90 days in one of my trips, but as u said hopefully they wont question that.

As for my wifes name its her Green Card, my name is ok on my green card.
In her Green Card her first name is NO NAME GIVEN which is totally out of place.
Do you think its a good idea to go for name correction or get passport and then change it.

I could have imagined if the last name or first name is flipped then we can bear with it, but in her case the entire first name is "NO NAME GIVEN"
i wonder i have to correct otherwise how can they issue a passport with first name "NO NAME GIVEN"

      thanks

its not 90 days its 180 days.and they might ask if you make trips too often. they need evidence that you have ties to the US.
on the other note about your wife name can be corrected at the time of interview. because I also had same problem, for my first name on green card it also said no name given and IO corrected it at time of interview.
