Hello all,

Please I need help to clarify somethings and I hope this forum can help me.

I am a usa citizen as I came in 2004 when I was 14 years old. A month after I came in to united states, my dad brought my usa passport and the passport expired last year. Now, I want to file for my wife and I have the following questions:
1) Do I need to renew my passport before I could file for her?
2) I never applied for certificate of citizenship since I already got my passport, is the certificate required for filing the petition?

Whatever you use as proof of your U.S. citizenship (passport) must be unexpired.

Your unexpired passport normally satisfies the requirement for proof of citizenship. Sometimes, however, additional evidence is requested regarding how you obtained your citizenship status.

if you have a passport , that IS your proof of citizenship. i think that the certificate of citizenship is necessary for people who don't have a passport.
