Hello everyone, so I'm planning to move to Texas from NY in September 2016. I'm eligible to apply for naturalization in December 2016. (3 month prior to 5 years).
I see that the Houston office is pretty much the slowest in the nation, it takes about 9-10 months if you are lucky to go through the process whereas in NY it takes less than 5 months.
I know I have to be a resident of the new state for 3 months to be eligible to apply and I'm not sure what to do and how the process works? Here are the two scenarios and I'd like to hear your advice.
1. Try to move to Texas as soon as possible, complete the 3 months and immediately apply for naturalization and have my case in Houston, but wait up to a year to get the citizenship.
2. Move to Texas, but still apply and send my case in NY in December, and keep coming back to New York, I live with relatives so I can still keep my permanent address as NY, or can't I? Am I crossing a gray area since I'll probably start a job in Houston but I'll still consider myself a NY resident (fill taxes, get all my bank statements, etc.)?
Thanks for your advice.
