  • n400 apply took 8 month, nothing changes.

My husband's N400 application time line

    received the notice, June 2015
did the finger prints, July 2015.

    Then.....nothing change till now.

We called the center and they let the local office call us back. We got a letter from local office which said there is no information can tell us about our case now.

So, I was wondering what should I do next? Infor pass? Or keep waiting ? Is this normal to be checked for such a long time?

    Our location is in LA,CA.

Check the processing times of your local "service center". In Cincinnati, OH for example, they state a 12 month processing time for N400 requests. It sucks living in a city with such a poorly performing service center, but not too much you can do besides starting a case inquiry at https://egov.uscis.gov/e-Request/Intro.do
        Good luck!

For one of my students, it took almost a year. It started in May of 2015.
The biometrics was processed quickly. I called on behalf of my student at 5 months. I was told that I could not request that they look into it until 6 months.
We called at 6 months, and were told that they just were running late as to the huge number of people applying for citizenship.
He finally got his letter for his big interview in March of 2016. He passed in April, and took his oath in May of 2016.
          Almost one YEAR.

This is in San Bernardino, Ca.

I would call the main office if I were you. Just be polite.

            Update

Our case is still showing "case was received" now. It was over a year.

We tried call the center, infor pass and ombudsman.

Infor pass was in March, they told us to wait.

Ombudsman had no reply over 50 days.

We called the center last week and they said will let local office call us back during 5 business days. Still waiting the call....

Thats all we done now, will update if something change.

If your case has been delayed for longer than six or eight months, or even longer, here's what I recommend: first, stop calling the USCIS number or checking status online because they are completely useless. Make an infopass appointment and go talk to a real person. If the infopass officer tells you that you just need to wait, tell him/her that you've been waiting long enough and that this is not normal. If nothing works, hire an experienced immigration lawyer. They know how to pressure the officers and push for an answer.

                    N-400 taking way too long!

Hey guys, I sent my app at the beginning of April; my fingerprints a month later... and then nothing at all... I have been waiting for over 4 months and nothing changes. I'm getting a little worried over here, my lawyer, however, told me she had to wait 6 months after the fingerprints were taken before she could contact USCIS and start pressuring them. This is mostly due to the fact that the FBI timeframe to process the fingerprints is 6 months...
