  • impact of temporary move out of state on residency creteria

    Hi,

We have green cards valid till 2018. We stayed in Kodak, TN till May (for about 8 years). In May first week, we moved to Arizona and got a AZ state Id on May 10th. Now due to some family reasons, we have to move back to TN.

We need to apply for naturalization soon. Question is, since we moved out of TN for about 3 - 4 weeks and got a state Id in AZ, does it impact on the criteria of 3 months of residency in TN before applying at TN for citizenship?
Since we have been staying in TN for last 8 years and just moved away for 1 month, does it invalidate the 3 months residency in TN before applying.

Any guidance you can provide would be great..

I think you should be okay, as long as you are able to produce a valid state id for TN as well, at the time of interview.
In the N400 application, it does ask you to list all your places of residence starting with the latest (with the start and end date). You would have to list your latest TN address at the top, followed by the AZ address for whatever duration you lived there (it's however, your decision on what you want to list). If asked by the interviewer, you may have to come up with a reason to state that your visit to AZ was temporary.
