  • Got Speeding Ticket Before Citizenship Interview

Hi, Can someone help me here.

I have my citizenship interview scheduled in 3rd week of Sep 2016. Last week ( first week of August ) i got my first speeding ticket ( 81/70 ) . This is my very first violation here in my 11 years of stay in USA. My court date is in Oct which is after the citizenship interview. Should i pay the fine (around $127) and go clean for the interview or go to court and ask for excuse since this is my very first one. Pls advise.

    Speeding Ticket

    Sorry about your speeding ticket.
Many Americans, including myself, have gotten at least one or more in their lifetime.

Since this ticket is recent, I would say that I got one on whatever date, and pay the $127.00 fine.
Before you pay it, though, go to the courthouse specified and see if the amount could be reduced if you go to traffic school.
The traffic school class is usually one day. You have to pay for the class. If you agree to go, maybe the bail amount for the ticket will be reduced and the ticket will not appear on your record.
You Car insurance could go up if this ticket is not cleared up with traffic school. Check out all of your options.

As far as the interview goes, just realize that this has to be disclosed, but tell them that you have paid the fine and scheduled traffic school if you have done so.

One paid for or cleared up ticket is not a problem.

They sometimes want to know how many tickets you have gotten in the last 5 years.....since this is your first one, I would not worry about it.

          Pay it

          Hello,

Yes pay it. Make sure u do not have pending tickets the day your interview. If u cant have it reduce pay it. Be vEry careful with tickets. The woman befOre me got denied because she had a ticket for tinted window and decided to fight it. So be safe. Pay it.

The woman before me was denied because of a ticket for tinted window, its not even that much of abig deal, she decided to fight for it, so she got denied. They do not care if how big ur case is. They just do not want you to have any pending case at the time of your interview. They want you record cleared. That's what the IO told me. They either have to deny u or delay your case. So be safe pay it.

              Resolve it before your interview.

The lady who was interviewed before me was denied because of a ticket for a tinted window, she decided to fight for it instead of paying it so it was still open the day of the interview. The IO told her that it she could have been approved if she did not fight it and just pay, it does not matter how big or small the case is. They do not want you to have open case at the time of the interview or before the oath (they want you cleared) so bee safe pay it. They can either deny you or delay you.
