  • Can I apply for Naturalization?

Hi, my grandmother was US citizen by birth, lived in us until she got married to my greek grandfather (they got married in US) after their marrige they left and went to South Aftica where my mother born. My mother moved to greece and had US passport until she got married to my father.
I am 35 years old now, Can I apply for green card or citizenship?

For someone born abroad, in wedlock (I assume you were born in wedlock), to one US citizen parent and one alien parent, between 1952 and 1986, the condition for acquiring citizenship at birth is that the US citizen parent must have been physically present in the US, before the child's birth, for a total of 10 years, including 5 years after turning 14. Was your mother physically present in the US for 10 years before your birth? If not, then you are not a US citizen.

Your US citizen mother could petition for you to immigrate , but there is a 7 (if you're unmarried) or 10 (if you're married) year wait, and she would have to re-establish domicile in the US.

This is my personal opinion and is not to be construed as legal advice.
