  • Non-marriage based naturalization interview

I've had a DV lottery Green card for over eight years. I'd like to get naturalized (partly due to the fact that the new administration seems to be taking a callous attitude towards green card holders). My wife is an American born citizen, but this is *not* a marriage based naturalization. It's a naturalization based on me having had the green card for more than 5 years.

I've been divorced in the past, and my wife gets very upset at the mention of that divorce. Since it is disclosed on form N-400, it will no doubt come up during the interview. Will my wife be invited or required to join me for this interview? If she's not, is it advisable to have her present regardless and despite the upset that it might cause?

My file is pretty straightforward. I have a couple speeding tickets, I've had military training in my home country (a NATO member that's not Turkey, nothing controversial here) and that's about it.

If your N-400 application is using the "5-year eligibility" rule, and there is no evidence of suspicion that you were assisted in getting yourGreen Card by your first wife, your present wife has nothing to do with this application and is no expected to be at your interview.
