  • Physical Presence required?

Hi asking on behalf for advice. Does one have to be present in the US when applying for citizenship or can one do it from overseas too?

A spouse of a member of the armed forces with official military orders authorizing them to accompany their spouse abroad? The time spent accompanying that member of the armed forces as provided in those orders counts towards physical and continuous presence. INA319(e)

Sorry I think I did not make myself clear. The person in the picture already has a green card. He has spent the required time in the US for the past 5 years. However currently he is overseas at his country of origin. Now does he have to wait till he is in the US next time to apply for the naturalization process or can he do it while he is overseas?

        Maybe, maybe not

        A. Three-Month Residency Requirement (in State or Service District)In general, an alien applying for naturalization must file his or her application

Depends on what he or she is doing abroad
