  • USCIS officer did not allow me to use my name from GreenCard.

    Hello,

USCIS officer did not allow me to use my name from GreenCard for naturalization during interview n400. He added patronymic name from my Russian passport as middle name. And he said I can change it in court lather.
I do not want to change my name twice. For example, on the green card my name is "John Smith". After naturalization it would become John Petrovich Smith, and, then after change in court it would be John Smith again.
I will be required to write long stupid history of my name changing on any official document my whole life.
This is tragedy for me. What I can do about it? I got a paper "decision cannot yet be made about your application" after interview. Looks like they will do additional checks.

Please HELP. This is in San Jose, CA.

Just use the "John Smith" version on all your everyday signatures and form-filling. If nothing else, use the initial for the middle node. Nobody really cares what your middle name is in the U.S., except for official identification purposes.
