How does USCIS N-400 refund fee work

I have been searching for this question online but no luck. So i submitted my N-400 on Oct 18th and i unfortunately did not see the continuous residence requirement and as a result i do not think i am eligible. However, i wanted to know if you are not eligible, does USCIS send back your package? Because today my card got charged and now i am afraid they will just send a letter saying i am not eligible and take the 725. Please help. Thanks in advance.

it is my understanding that there are very few circumstances that they would refund your money, and what you mentioned below "woops, i didn't read properly" is not going to cut it... you may as well just wait for the decision and not ask for a refund. who knows, you may just qualify to apply...
