  • Missed Interview, and had to re-do Biometrics. How long to expect?

I'll try to make this as simple as possible to follow.

    1) In Jan2017, I first completed Biometrics.
    2) In Jan2018, I got moved up into Interview phase, but never got the letter (change of address, but forgot to notify).
    3) In Mar2018, I realized I had missed it, so I requested (a) change of address, and (b) new Interview date.

Back then, I went for an InfoPass appointment, and they told me that when you ask to reschedule an Interview, they try to schedule it within 2-3 weeks of the request.
    However:

    4) In Apr2018, I got a new letter to re-do Biometrics (it expires after 15 months).
    5) Yesterday, I re-did my Biometrics.

The next step is the Interview, but my question is:

Should I expect the delay between Biometrics and Interview to be the same for me as for everyone else (~12months)... Or is it faster because I'm getting re-scheduled?

I went for an InfoPass appointment in Mar2018, and they told me that when you ask to reschedule an Interview, they try to schedule it within 2-3 weeks of the request.
But I don't know if having had to re-do Biometrics will meaningfully change that. Should I be expecting a few weeks or months, or the full regular period? (~12 months)

    Hope this makes sense. Thanks!

Since you missed the interview date entirely without notice from you, you were considered a "No show" at the time.

At least you requested a change of address and a new interview date to explain why you missed the first appointment.

You are at the "mercy" of your local USCIS office. It depends on their schedule "traffic." Some offices are really busy, so 6 months to a year is not unusual. Others are less so, so their average may be 3-6 months depending on your case.

One of my students was to take his exam in Los Angeles, which was very busy. He ended up waiting about 10 months for his interview. We called USCIS on his behalf after 6 months of waiting. They put a "flag" on his application to see where he was in the interview process. In the end, they notified him that they were just "busy," and apologized for the wait. In the meantime, his green card went out of date. The USCIS officer did not make an issue of it at all and passed him when he finally did have his interview, almost a year after filing his application.

Most of my students get their interview within 3-4 months of their application, but don't count on it. Stuff happens. I have a husband and wife in my class who filed at the same time. The husband got his appointment within three months of filing his application. His wife is still waiting for hers, and it has been four months. She is still waiting for her letter.

I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice. JMHO.

    Good luck.
