  • Out of country for school

i got my GC in Feb, 2006. I have fulfilled the 30 months residence requirement and have never left the country more than 6 months any trip. However, I just got accepted by an university in another country for my advanced degree. Basically, I will the country this Aug for school and plan to fly back every 3-4 months (during school break). My question is should I apply for re-entry permit? If so, should I put "going for school" as the reason? Someone told me that it is a very bad idea to claim "going for school" since the customs may question my intention of staying in US and may even take back my GC when I return. Does anyone have similiar experience - going out of the country for school?

    Please help!

Yes. You should apply for re-entry permit. And 'going to school' is a good reason.
