Hi,
My family of 3 got our GC's in 7/04. We moved to India in 8/2006 (for 2 yrs stay) after applying for re-entry permit and gave my sister's Los Angeles address for receipt of I-131 approval notice.I plan to stay alone for 6 continous months(during my re-entry permit time) in Delaware to make up for 30 months of stay in US after receving the plastic Green Card. Now my question is:
1.Can I apply for citizenship in 7/2009 after staying in USA for only 30 months since GC approval.
2.if my Citizenship is approved, then how can my wife and daughter also get naturalized? They too have Green cards and are in India with me now. (Our current re-entry permit is valid from 7/2006-7/2008).Can I apply for a second re-entry permit for them from 7/2008 to 7/2009 to keep their GC's valid and apply for their citizenship in 7/2009 assuming I get mine first before filing for theirs ?

Residency requirements for applying for citizenship are that you have not stayed outside of US for more than 180 days of a calendar year. If you have stayed more than the stipulated 180 days, then all the time that you stayed in US prior will reset, meaning have no value towards counting the 5 year requirement. So the 5 year clock will start all over again, once you start living in US again.

Thanks for the info. That was not my question,(Looks like I was not clear in my question) Re-framing my question:,
1. I got my GC in 8/04
2. I got re-entry permit valid for for 2 yrs in 7/06
3. Left US and came to India in 8/06 with the intention of going back to US in 8/08.
4. in 9/06 I am planning to go to US for work.
5. Now, my question is:
If I I stay for only 6 more continous months in the US can I file for Citizenship in 8/09 (since that counts for 30 months stay and 5 yrs since GC approved). I will apply for another re-entry permit in 8/08 and they will approve me for 1 yr then.

Also, If we maintain my dependents GC status by applying for repeated re-entry permits, then after getting my citizenship if I apply for thiers, will they get naturalized immediately or do they also have to keep 5 years of stay in US after GC date.
