Interview experience at El Monte, CA
My interview appointment was at 11 am. But actually it started only at 12:50 pm. It went till 1.10 pm. The interview had three sections:
1. Going over N-400 applications (most of the time was spent on this)
-------------------------------------------------------------------
The officer literally went through all the pages of the application, and re-confirmed the information I had filled, and made corrections if any.
2. English test
-------------
He asked me to write the following sentence. That's all the English test.
"I know how to speak English"
3. US History test
------------------
I think he had about 10 questions. He was asking one by one. After I answered the first 6 questions correct, he stopped it.
At the end he got my signature on one of the sheet indicating that I had both tests (2 and 3). That's it. He congratulated me, and said in one month or before I will get a letter for Oath of the cermony.
Tips:
-----
Go early (not before 30 mins of the appointment). They go by the first come first serve basis, I don't think they follow the appointment timing.
Bring some snacks, and a bottle of water.
Bring a newspaper or a magazine to read in the waiting room
Do not carry cell phone inside (better keep in your car)
Let me know if you have any more or specific questions. I would be happy to answer any of them.
Thanks,
Virudhun

Thanks !
1) My wifes interview is tomorrow and mine is on wed. I am going with her. Can I wait the whole time in waiting room? I will keep my cellphone with me.
2) I am surprised you did not get oath letter right there..most folks mentioned that EL MONTE office gives oath letter right after interview.
3) Did you get the congratulations letter or what?
4) Also what docs did he ask you to produce like passport,GC etc?
Thanks

Here is my reply
1. I don't think you can even enter the federal building without the appointment letter. However please check with the security office at the entrance.
2) Is it so? Please update me whether you or your spouse get oath letter after the interview.
3) Yes, I got congratulations letter.
4) I carried documents like Pay stub, employment verification letter, traffic violation ticket clearance certificate, etc. But none of them were required/requested by the interviewer. The only documents the officer asked for were Original passport, driving license, and US Permanent residence card.
Please share your experience after the interview.
Thanks,
Virudhun

Wife successfully completed her interview today at El Monte. They told her that the oath letter would come in mail . None of them got the oath letter there so I think its universal now that the oath letter would be mailed. Standard 10 questions was asked. I got all my papers with me but they did not allow me to give interview today as my appt is for tomorrow.
