Travelling after interview and before oath

I have interview on 11/9/06 and I need to go to India to visit my mother who is going through some sickness. I called the local INS and she said there will about 3 month gap beteween interview and oath. She also said that since I still have my GC with me, she does not see a problem with me travelling.
Can I go to India after interview for couple of weeks? Has any body did such travel or know some one who did?

You can travel outside US after the interview. I am surprised there is a gap of 3 months between interview and oath ceremony. Your green card will be taken away at the oath ceremony.
