Selective service question

I have to apply for citizenship and there is a concern that I have on selective service registration.I was on a non immigrant visa while I applied for I485. And there was a period from when I received the permanent resident card and my nonimmigrant visa expired which I was in united states under the age of 26yrs. I received my green card after I turned 26.
The question is weather I was a lawful nonimmigrant before I recived my green card or was I not, and I was suppose to register with them??

This is a problem, since the law says that if you were in the US illegally (which happened when your visa expired) or a permanent resident you had to register. Consult a lawyer, because if the issue comes up during the interview, which probably will, you will get denied.
