  • Born in the USA

    Hello.

I am on L-1 visa, my wife has L-2 visa. We are maintaining legal status here. She is pregnant and the baby will be born in the end of October, on US soil.

I understand this does not give me and my wife any status change like green card or citizenship. However, does my baby become a US citizen and is it automatically? Is the birth certificate enough, or I have to make sure to get tax id, SSN, other documents ready in order to insure his/her citizenship?

    Thanks in advance!

Nothing is required. Everyone born on US soil is US citizen - as of today. You just need to get the SSN and Birth certificate for your child. Later you can get the passport.

BTW, you also have the option of getting an Indian passport if you apply for with in 1 year of your baby's age. Just in case, if you are not aware of this.
