I have applied for citizenship from northern Virgina Sep 2006 and my fingerprint also has been done. Since I have not heard anything back from INS, I have called 2 months ago and they told me if I do not here back from them within 30-60 days, call back to INS. Today I called and they told to me contact with the local field office. Does anyone has similar experience? Please share.

You need to make an appointment and go to the local office at once! The possibilities are that your correspondance got lost in the mail or your local office is so backed up that they did not appoint an interview date although the case has been transferred to them, or they lost your file. Do not delay!

      Thank you for the information.
I may now go through with congress man to see if they can find more info.

Today - I went to fairfax, VA local INS office and they have told me - background check still pending and they do not have any more information. Complete waste of time. All they do punch in the receipt number in the INS web site and check the status - which no brainer can do. It's been almost 11 months for me but I have heard MD and NY are much faster as few people I know already got the passport within 6-7 months time frame.

No luck - I have called the office and they said only way they can esclate if
        1. If you are dying
        2. No jobs
        3. Financial crisis

        If none of the above
        - hire an attorney and sue
finally they also told me call back in NOV if nothing happen in between
