  • why becoming a US citizen?

once you become a permanent resident, what are the advantages of becoming a US citizen? why would you want to apply for citizenship?

  • #2
Because they want to become an American.

Oh...Have you ever ask yourself that " WHY would you want to apply for permanent resident? "

    That's why. Any other WHY?

      Good one.

I like DUKHUC's response. If you're a permanent resident and live in this country, then you might as well (for the same reason why you live here), become an US citizen.

If not, then why live here in the first place?

      Take care.

well, if I can live in the US with no restrictions (GC), then I would only consider US citizenship if I could still keep my country of origin citizenship (dual citizenship, which I am not if both countries are okay with it)

You can sponsor family members for a GC.
          You can obtain federal aid.
You can obtain scholarships and healthcare.
You can obtain jobs that are reserved only for US Citizens.
You can move and re-locate wherever you want to without informing USCIS.
You can move out of the country and not lose your "status".
You do not have to carry proof of legal status in the country.
          Etc...

          Take your pick.
