  • Continuous Residency - 11 months outside US

    Hi,

Hope you all had a prosperous new year.

    Here is my concern:

Here are the dates that I went outside the US:

    1. Tha date that I become permanent is June 06, 2003. I went back home to my country July 18,2003 for school purposes and suppose to be 6 months only and unfortunately for some family issue I stayed 11 months and came back to US June 18, 2004. 11 months - (I also applied for the re-entry permit)

    2.Came back to my country for vacation Sept. 24, 05 - Oct. 10, 2005:15Days

    3. Trip to Canada Sept 3, 05 to Sept 5 05 - 2 Days

    4. July 05, 07 - July 21, 07 - 16 Days

For my first trip I stayed more than 6 months but less than 1 year and on every trip I stayed only 15 or 16 days.

    Question:

    1. I'm going to be 5 years in June 06, 2008. Am I still eligible for the Citizenship? Im planning to apply 90 days before my 5 years. Is there any problem or concerns that I need to know?

    2. There is one example in guidelines for naturalization 4 years and 1 day. Can someone explain to me the 4 years 1 dayis all about.

    Thank you in advance.

    Calculate 5 years from ...

... your last 11 month trip.

Your smaller trips won't matter except to add up the total number of days residing in the United States.

    Take care.

      5 years....citizenship (4 years 1 day)

      Thank you for the response....

So I have to start counting 5 years from June 18, 2004 not June 6,2003....

Other says that if your out more than a year sample 1 year and 2 days... you have to start countin 4 years 1 day and then you can eligible for the citizenship?...

      Thank you....

      Take care.....

        Yes & don't know

Yes, your counting date is correct.

About the other thing, I am not aware of it.

        Take care.
