  • Citizenship interview and possible problem need help

Myself and my wife both applied to Vermont Service center ( reside in Boston area).
    Priority date : -3/20/08
    Finger Prints :04/24/08
Interview : 07/01/08 at Boston, both of us interviewed by different officers on the same day, 1 hr apart

The Letter said we Passed English, Civics, History test, however case cannot be determined at this time. Wife was told verbally that we will get notified of the Oath ceremony and Interview part is done. I was told that I need *not* appear for any other interviews.

What worries me is that. Just around the time I got my green card I was laid off well by the company that sponsored the GC for me. And the officer did ask me about the Employer who sponsored my GC. Will this create a problem. Cause as per GC rules one should work for the employer who gave the job offer in the fist place. Only exception is that you unwilling had to leave and you got laid-off. But in my case it happens to be the same month I got my GC in hand as well. Not sure what to expect now.

I have a similar case to yours. Consulting with a lawyer, I was hesitating to submit N-400. It is difficult to prove and convince "unwilling lay-off". Even though I had a letter from the employer sponsor explaining the difficulties of business and thus he could not continue employment at that time. In my case the employer company has gone bankrupt and no longer exist now. Let me have your email to discuss further if possible. Thanks

              Congrats

Congrats skdbos. Did your wife also got the oath letter? Is there any complications in your case? I'm just wondering why it took so long to get your oath letter after your interview.

No idea why it took long, reason given to me during interview by the IO was that he was waiting for a immigration file from other office. In my wifes case she was using her maiden name and then sometime before applying for GC she changed her last name to my last name also mentioned in N400 (under other names used). So the officer told her that he is waiting for a file related to the maiden name before he can approve. Otherwise she was all set.
Note that different officers interviewed us. So I am not sure if we can assume that everytihgn will be synchronized. If you have any insight into how they link both appllications please share it.

They know a lot of us will vote for OBAMA...so they wanna take it slow

Why cant they mail all the files together. Why cant the files be compiled in a computer? why cant we take the oath same day like NJ

                    Congratulations

Finally you got the oath ceremony. Congratulations! SKDBOS.
Did IO was specifically asking about the duration of the work at the sponsor company? I wonder how serious about the issue with the IO.
                    Anyway congratulations again!!

                      Thanks pipedream2.

I was just above the 5 yr residency requirement and the sponsoring employee information was just outside the 5yr window. So I was asked where I worked before the company I had mentioned last in N-400. So I gave the information as is. Now I am not sure the intent of asking that question. Probably is to just check the facts.

So I would say take a second opinion from a more experienced Lawyer. Cause whoever I asked gave a positive reply that if there was a genuine reason for short stay after getting GC then its not been a problem. So there are multiple instances where people have made use of AC21 and also left on their own account. Even that is alright as far you can proove that you got a better offer.
