I got my US citizenship for the wrong reasons. I want to know is it easy to give up my citizenship and get my green card back? Or will I have to start from scratch for my GC. Just want to know if it is done and what are my options.

There are many cases where people renounce US citizenship.
You will not get your GC statis back (point Blank)
Ususally you have a right to renouce your citizenship, but that will be done not with USCIS, but with a US discrit court or the State DEPT (US consulate)
But to get GC statis back will be hard. Youll have to start again.
Its not my business but if you dont mind, why do you want to renouce your citizenship?

Thanks for all your replies.
I guess I am a hard core Indian at heart. All those years of reading the Pledge of India really stuck in my mind. And it was at the oath ceremony that I was taken aback by what I was saying.
I got my citizenship only coz my family wanted to come here, but now with this economy they have changed their mind.
ucheojo Do you know of anyone who has renounced their citizenship and how do they feel about it now?

So, honestly,
its the economy. Else, why would you come to United States, live here for so many years, get your permanent residency and then file for United States citizenship, then get the United States citizenship.
So you mean to say, that after ALL this, you realized that you're Indian at "heart" and want to go back to your home country.
Were you not Indian at heart when US economy was good and you were reaping the benefits.
I am sorry, it wasn't my idea to ask you the reasons, but since you mentioned it, I couldn't help.
Take care and good luck to you.

Even in the bad economy, you can still get PIO/OCI card, go back to India, and work in India, if you think opportunities are better over there. You don't really have to give up your US citizenship for that.
Unless you make something like hundred million dollars a year from business outside the US, giving up US citizenship does not make sense. If you were really making that kind of money, you wouldn't be seeking advice on this forum.
Therefore, we are still at loss why exactly you would like to give your US citizenship.Immihelp Support

No, absolutely not ...
... to answer your question, no, I am sure nobody here has heard of anybody relinquishing the hard earned US citizenship and don't even have the intention for the same.
Take care.

i respect
I resectyour decision. Even though i will advice you to keep your US citizenship.
My uncle who was here in the 70s as a US citizen, denounced it in the early 80s ..... He regrets it now, because his country (Nigeria) does not respect or pay him well to be a Medical Doctor.
Economy of the U.S. will be bad and good, but if it gets bad here, it will be worst around the world.
There is a saying: When America Snizz, the world gets a pneumonia.
My uncle visits the US on vacation, but he cannot regain his status. He is married now to a Nigerian and has no immidiate relatives who is U.S. citizen.
So .......whatever you are doing or decision you take....if it will benefit you as an individual ....do it

There is a difference
There is a difference b/w working for somebody and calling him your dad... Well I want to get what I want from here... I am not going declare my allegiance to them... and if I get a chance I will screw USA..
Lets say somebody got attracted so much by the ideologies of USA and opportunities and the freedom (a false sense of freedom), became a citizen, then if a different country say China tomorrow trumps USA (for all the reason he/she took US citizenship) then will this person take Chinese citizenship?
I know some people are like yeah he is rich, he will give offer all opportunities I want, so he is my going to be my daddy from now on, I don't care if he kills my original father (if he knows who is that) and screw my mother...

Shocked!
I am surprised to see so many people out there hate this country but are the first ones to apply for Green Cards and Citizenships. If you have so much hatred just go back to your native country and be happy...we don't need people like you. Just go away.
Also, from my experiences, these people are the first ones to claim to go back to their country after being rich. Why stay here if there is no allegiance? There are million others who would want to take your place and be commited here....
If this is called "False freedom", may be you have been living in a basement of some dark home? My word of advise, please go out get fresh air and look around you. May be you will have a better answer next time around.

Who are you to say?
Who are you to say to go away from USA or any other country? Did you brought this earth when you born? We are all born here and the earth is for everybody, I have the right to stay anywhere in this earth as anybody else. If someone is drawing some border and telling me you need some kind of permission like visa to enter here, that is hypocrisy. People have already done that and they have taken resources of earth that should be shared by all. They stole from me, I am just stealing it back from them.

I see a left wing and a middle ground argument here. Where is the right wing? We need them in this thread.

The good ole way of sharing everything that "mother" Earth has given us has been put behind now in the capitalist world. There is no point looking back. Moving on with the current state of world is in the best interest.
The Native American tradition of worshiping the elements of nature and respecting the Earth is no longer a priority now. If everyone took only what they need from Earth, would there be a problem? No. Definitely not.
Oh well, I have been watching too many documentaries I guess and I will stop
