  • Moving back to India after we get citizenship

We have completed 3 yrs on our GC and we now want to settle down in India. I see a lot of advantages if we take our citizenship before we go. Are there any disadvantages that we ll ve to face in India if we are US citizens.. in terms of getting a job, kids' education, etc? Can anyone share their experiences?

3 years? you need to complete 5 years on GC before being able to apply for citizenship and it takes another year to get citizenship if you meet all the other requirements.

What is the point of obtaining US citizenship if you plan on leaving the USA? your are supposed to be pledging alliance to the USA... or you only care about what "Can uncle Sam do for you?" instead of the other way around.

You need to also look into what will happen with your Indian citizenship.

I know it takes 5 yrs..its just our planning stage. We want to take citizenship coz we intend to come back once our kids grow up. Right now they are toddlers. We want to take them to India for a few years to stay with family, learn our culture.. I dont want to justify our reasons. But I want some unbiased and objective opinions as to what problems can we have in India.. like I read in some post that NRI kids have to pay very high fees for education. Any more experiences or information if anyone has plz advice.

Get OCI(kind of Dual Citizenship) from Indian consulate after getting a USA citizenship and that is it. Only thing you can't vote in India, can't buy agriculure land or applying any government jobs. rest of thing you will be treated as an Indian citizen. There will be no problems getting jobs or kids education or buying real estates.
