    Hi friends,

i am applying for my citizenship..family based from my husband..I havent changed my name after the wedding and now there is an option while submitting the application and is it good to do that now...if so what are the advantages and disadvantages...if any one has done it in the past please get back to me as soon as u can...

Most places require that you file a order with the court to change your name other than through marriage. This would entail a fee. The advantage of doing it through naturalization is that there is no fee. Other than that I see no advantage to changing your last name.

      name change

I'm not sure if this will help. I filed for my wife. when we had gotten married she signed the marriage cert with my last name. but when i sent the papers in I used her maiden name. I also put on the application in the box other names used. her married name. all of the EAD and AP came in her maiden name. At the interview the officer asked what name she wanted to go by and we told her the married name so she ordered the GC in the married name.

Yes that's fine. For future immigration issues a copy of your marriage certificate would be in the immigration file, so having her married name on the GC is not a problem. Should she ever wish to back to her maiden name with the immigration might entail a formal name change (which she could do at time of applying for citizenship).
