    san antonio applicant

    Hello poisontee and others!!!!

I feel so blessed to have found this site since I will soon begin my journey!!!! I will be submitting my application in a couple of weeks. October 22,2009 will be 90 days before my 5 yr GC anniversary.

    Poisontee:
1.) Although I'm applying before the 5yrs, do I still check the box that says "I have been a lawful perfmanent resident of the US for at least 5 years" [PART 2]??
2.) Although the San Antonio office is local to me, do I still send my application to the LOCKBOX address in Lewisville? Even if I'm sending it via USPS Express Mail?

P.S. The USCIS site gives a different address if you're sending express/courier deliveries.

I thank you all in advance for any help you can provide. May you all have an AWESOME day! Hope to hear from any of you soon.

One can apply for spouse GC while his GC is still in process (like; I-485). But If your GC is approved & then you get married, you wont be able to sponsor your spouse so easily or even bring your spouse into US so easily (unless spouse already has some sort of US visa). But Its very easy to sponsor your spouse if you are a US citizen. This is so weird with USA. But cant help it.
So, probably Helpwithh1 might have been married after his GC approval.
    Smita
I got my GC in 2004 and got married in 2006 to my wife who was here on F1. I could have applied her GC as dependent on my GC(takes for ever) and she would have had to maintain her status independently(F1- H1).
I was told that if she was pursuing non immigrant visas and I was doing the immigrant path for her, USCIS would consider that dual-intent.
And it was not going to get her a GC sooner. So I decided to wait until I become the citizen and then sponsor her GC now that she has an H1 starting last year.
The only thing I could have done was get the I-130 approved early this year, but thats very simple step once I file after my naturalization.

    Non-immigrant can sponsor spouse/dependents
    Citizen can sponsor spouse/dependents

GC HOLDERS CANNOT!! I hate that but cannot do anything about it.

Does the application process moves faster if you apply for your spouse's GC after you become citizen?

    Thanks...

One more thing, don't forget to make a copy of your certificate and apply for a us passport. Its a easier way to proof your us citizenship than carrying the certificate.

I am glad things are looking good for you!

    best regards,
    Poisontee
I am planning to do that. Thanks for the advise..

I am also getting the paperwork ready for my wife's GC application. As soon as I have my naturalization certificate, I will apply for her GC.
