I got married 3 years ago and things are not working out and we are discussing separation. How long do we need to stay together before I can get my permanent residency card? Both unhappy and want to move on.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    ng451-

Sorry to hear about your marriage not working out.

    A couple of questions
    1. Have you gotten your conditional green card yet?
2.If not when did you apply?

    best regards,

Its been awhile since I've been here....was starting to lose hope.

We have now been married for 4 years, I've had my permanent residency card for 3 years. I recently found out that I can apply for citizenship since I've obtained status through marriage. Not sure we're going to hold out much longer which means I will have to wait for the 5 yr. mark before applying.

      Is this correct??

If you received your GC on the basis of marriage to a citizen and if it has been three years already since you got your GC, you are eligible to apply for citizenship on that basis(in fact you can apply 90 days before you the three year mark on your GC)
        Good luck
