Do you owe any taxes to the IRS?Originally posted by MAR2009 View PostHi, I am a Green Card holder since 1990, 19 years, and I decided now apply for naturalization, from 1987 to 1993 I did file income tax ,from 1995 to 2003 I did not file income tax,so 9 years no doing it, now since 2004 until now I am doing again, for the last 5 years, do you think I am not eligible because of those years I did no file tax??
If so, you will need to fix that part and show proof you are clear with IRS.
If you simply did not file because you had no income or did not work, then that shouldn't be a problem.
best wishes!

How do I know I am clear with IRS? on my social security statement shows that I did not file!! do they go back all those years that I have GC, or they look what I have done in the past 5 years. Also the reason I never filed for naturalization before, is because I did not know at the time I had to subscribe at Selective service, but I am 41 year old now, I think fir that since that I did not know it will no be a problem. Thanks for the fast reply.

On the application, it asks if you owe IRS money. There is no time frame on that. So if you do owe, the truth would be yes. If you say you don't owe money to IRS and they find that out, then you will be denied your application for lying. Instead of risking getting caught lying, why not fix the IRS deal first and then file for your citizenship?Originally posted by MAR2009 View PostHow do I know I am clear with IRS? on my social security statement shows that I did not file!! do they go back all those years that I have GC, or they look what I have done in the past 5 years. On your selective service, I believe you are good since you are now way past the 18-26 yrs required to file!
